What is Castile Soap?

Castile soap is an olive oil-based bar or liquid soap originating from the Castile region of Spain. It has gained quick fame and popularity amongst environmental lovers who prefer using organic and environmentally friendly products!

Castile Soap can be used in so many different ways, everyday household cleaning to skincare, laundry, and even pet care. They register at about 8.9 on the pH scale.

1) Bug Spray

2) Window cleaner

To get clean windows, simply mix 1 tbsp of castile soap into a spray bottle. Spray the solution and wipe down with a microfibre cloth to remove marks, water spots, and dust.

3) Tile Cleaner

Make a mopping solution by adding half a cup of Castile Soap to three/four gallons of hot water. Mop your tile and grout as usual and say hello to clean and sparkly floors. Along with regular professional tile and grout cleaning will help keep it in top shape.

4) Multipurpose cleaning spray

Make your own multipurpose cleaning solution by mixing 1/4th of your desired Castile liquid solution preferably a scented one with water. It can be used to clean countertops, cabinets, ovens etc. Here are some other organic cleaning recipes as well. 

5) Toilet Cleaner

It comes unsaid that toilets are one of the dirtiest places in our home. Castile soap is not recommended to be used solely for disinfecting purposes. It can help you keep your toilet looking clean(er) between cleanings. Just put a few drops of castile soap into your toilet, then give it a quick swish with your toilet brush, and flush.

6) Plant Spray

To avoid bugs and critters ruining your plants, you can make your own repellent spray by mixing a tablespoon of Castile Soap with some water and spritz it on necessary areas, the alkaline nature of the soap helps keep critters away.

7) DIY Carpet Cleaner

Make your very own carpet cleaning solution by mixing one part Castile soap with two parts of Hydrogen Peroxide in the mixing container. Either pour it onto the carpet stain or put the mixture into a spray bottle. Let it sit for a minute or so before blotting the stain away.

8) Laundry Liquid

The alkaline nature of Castile Soap makes it an effective cleaner to remove greasiness, dirt, and stains. To make your own laundry detergent add ⅓ – ½ cup of the soap into a large load, adding a few drops of essential oils will help it smell good as well.

Pour some hot water into a bowl and add a couple of drops of Castile soap and swish your makeup brushes in the solution ensuring the soapy solution goes through the bristles, removing every bit of makeup! Run the brush under cool clean water and allow it to dry.

10) Exfoliating Body Wash

You can Castile soap on its own, but you can create an effective exfoliating body wash by adding rolled oats, a spoon of honey or Yogurt and three to five tablespoons of Castile Soap to reach desired consistency.

11) Baby Wash

Castile soap is very gentle and its all natural as it mainly comprises olive oil and hemp. Add one tablespoon of Castile Soap to two tablespoons of water ratio along with a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Tea tree oil is recommended due to its antibacterial properties. Make the soap solution away from baby eyes!

12) Honey Facial Cleanser

Combine 3 tablespoons of honey, 1/2 cup of vegetable glycerine, and 2 tablespoons of Castile soap. Pour the mixture into a small bottle, and use as a facial cleanser! The honey helps your skin retain moisture, and the soap helps clean your skin without drying it out.

13) Foot Scrub

Create your own exfoliating and relaxing foot scrub by mixing a cup of sugar, two tablespoons of Castile sugar, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and 3-6 drops of lavender essential oil.

14) Decongestant and Sinus Relief

Castile soap along with essential oils acts as an excellent decongestant. Fill a large bowl with hot water and add a few drops of Castile peppermint or eucalyptus soap. Take in the steam, it helps in reducing discomfort and lets you breathe more easily.
